大约在同一时间,我们还被邀请到 哈佛神学院 .。我们被称为邪教的次数已经够多了,也许这并不奇怪(顺便说一句,我听到的对此最好的回应是 Greg 的:“是的,但我们不会逼你留下来。”)。
我们被邀请是因为《我们如何聚集 》一书的作者将CrossFit比作教堂,因为它在人们的生活中发挥着作用–特别是对千禧一代来说,他们不太倾向于传统意义上的宗教,但却寻求能培养类似目的和归属感的世俗体验和社区。
最令我印象深刻的是神学院活动中一位女性听众的问题。 她说:

我第一次明白这一点——真正深刻地理解它——是在 2005 年。劳伦·格拉斯曼 (Lauren Glassman) 在白板上写了一个练习。 10 次悬垂高翻、7 次双力臂和 50 次深蹲的时间为 3 轮。这是为网站拍摄的,Annie Sakamoto、Eva Twardokens 和我将成为演示运动员。在编写并随后发布到 CrossFit.com 时,它没有名字,但在编辑过程中,Lauren 将精力放在了 Nitty 的歌曲“Nasty Girls”上,从那时起它就广为人知。

Eva

当它结束时,我哭了。我觉得自己彻底失败了。我很不好意思。我会让我的教练失望。我输得很惨,我只想躲在一块石头下。
但在 视频 上传到 CrossFit 网站后不久,格雷格就给我打了电话。 “你必须看看这个,”他说。 “谁知道最后一名的女孩会成为那个英雄。”

那是我第一次了解到,在 CrossFit Santa Cruz 的围墙之外,更广泛的文化正在培养自己。 CrossFit 除了训练本身之外还有更多的东西是因为人们被它吸引而创造的。

赫兹(J.C. Hertz)在她的书《学会呼吸火焰 》中这样说:
CrossFit需要勇气和对不适的胃口。 它将整个人、头脑、身体和精神压在紧张和疲劳的磨刀石上,人们必须选择留在那里,直到他们锋芒毕露。 它改变了人们,改变了他们的身份,也束缚了他们。
